Sounds familiar?

Upgrades get put off for a reason.

  • The checkout that broke on launch night
  • The store still on 2.4.3 because nobody dares touch it

The real work isn’t running composer update. It’s knowing what breaks and why.

What’s included

The whole upgrade, not just the command.

  1. Pre-flight audit. Full extension inventory, compatibility check, custom code review and a written risk register for your store. This is what makes the price fixed rather than estimated.
  2. Upgrade in our environment, then on your staging site. We upgrade in our own development environment, with no customer data, through the SKU pipeline, our own AI-assisted system. A senior developer reviews every extension conflict and deprecation fix. Then it goes onto your staging site for you to check, before anything goes live.
  3. Full regression testing. Checkout with real payment gateway sandboxes, transactional emails including attachments, admin workflows and integrations.
  4. Production release. Released in an agreed window, with a tested rollback plan.
  5. A week of monitoring. Orders, error logs and performance watched after release, so a quiet failure is caught early.

Fixed price, agreed before we start. Straight to the latest supported release, with every security patch for that version included. If the audit finds something that changes the scope, you hear about it before any work starts, not in an invoice afterwards.

Modern tools, senior judgement

Built with modern tools. Checked by a senior developer.

We build with AI coding tools inside the SKU pipeline, our own system for Magento and WordPress. Your changes go live sooner, and a fixed monthly price can include real development. The tools are half the job. The half that decides whether a change is right is done by a person.

What the SKU pipeline speeds up

  • Reading your store’s code and config before a change
  • Getting to a first working version
  • Drafting tests and documentation
  • Spotting what a change might affect

What a senior developer does, every time

  • Agrees with you what “done” looks like
  • Reviews every line and corrects what isn’t right
  • Tests on your staging site and configures it properly
  • Releases in an agreed window, with a rollback ready
  • Answers when something breaks

Why upgrades go wrong

The failures that hurt most are the quiet ones.

A Magento upgrade touches everything: core, extensions, theme, payment gateways, email and integrations. Recent examples from our own production work:

  • Silent order failures after 2.4.8. A strict address validation change (Adobe issue ACSD-67904) caused orders through certain payment gateways to fail without any error shown to the customer.
  • Broken transactional emails. The move to Symfony Mailer broke PDF invoice attachments on payment gateway emails. Everything looked fine in testing; invoices just stopped arriving.
  • Hyvä and GraphQL dependency conflicts that only surface at deploy time.

We list these because knowing what to look for is what you’re paying an upgrade specialist for.

Where your budget goes

More of your budget goes into your store.

Budgets are tight for most UK businesses right now. You shouldn’t be paying for layers you never see.

No agency overheads

No account managers, sales team or big office in your price. You pay for senior development, not the layers around it.

You talk to the person doing the work

No briefing an account manager who briefs a junior. You speak to the senior developer who knows your store.

One fixed monthly price

No hourly billing and no surprise invoices. You know what the year costs before it starts.

Quoted before we start

Bigger jobs get a fixed price agreed first. If something turns out bigger, we stop and ask before it costs you more.

Our mistakes are on us

If a change we released breaks, we roll it back and fix it at no extra charge.

No lock-in, no exit fee

Monthly rolling, one month’s notice, and the code lives in a repository you own.

We have enjoyed working with Qaiser since November 2024 and have been really impressed by his general approach. During our first few months we needed to move quickly on setting up new server suppliers, website migration and then getting several upgrades to our Magento ecommerce platform live. Qaiser handled each of these tasks with a high level of care and technical support. We have since gained sufficient confidence to work with Qaiser on future development work/projects. It's refreshing to find a developer that is both caring/responsive day to day and at the same time has the technical capability to get the tasks done.

Common questions

How long does a Magento 2 upgrade take?

A well-maintained store on a recent version: typically 1 to 2 weeks per version jump including testing. Stores several versions behind or heavily customised take longer, and the audit tells you exactly how long before you commit.

Will the store be offline?

For 30 to 45 minutes while the upgrade goes live, in a window we agree with you. Everything before that happens in our environment and on your staging site, with the store running as normal.

Will our extensions survive the upgrade?

Most will; some won’t. The pre-flight audit identifies which, and whether to update, replace or drop each one.

Which version will you upgrade us to?

As a one-off project, the latest supported release. On Partner and Partner Plus, the yearly upgrade moves you to the latest stable release, typically one behind the newest (e.g. 2.4.8 to 2.4.9).

What counts as one version jump?

One minor release step, for example 2.4.6 to 2.4.7. Patch releases within a minor version are included. The audit confirms how many jumps your store needs.

We’re on Magento 1. Can you help?

Yes, but that’s a migration rather than an upgrade. See Magento 1 to Magento 2.

Can you keep us upgraded every year?

Yes. Partner and Partner Plus include one major upgrade a year. On Care it’s a fixed price, agreed before we start.
